Rainy day in Lyon

It rained during the morning and evening, with a brief dry spell between. Ally spent the morning at the departmental archive, so Eli and I got to spend a lot of time together. He slept late--till nine--so I was worried he would not take a nap. But right at one, he led me into the bedroom and tried to climb into his travel crib. In the past month or so, Eli's gone from merely making his needs known to deciding what to do next. Anyway, it was a great relief that he slept. It looks like he's gotten past the jet lag.

We all walked to a nearby playground for part of the afternoon. Eli had a great time playing on the equipment and walking around. There is a dog part next to the playground, and Eli loved seeing the dogs come and go.

For dinner we all had ravioli. When we first started feeding Eli regular solid food last fall, we had high hopes for ravioli. He liked noodles. He liked cheese. Ravioli combines them and is less messy. But he refused to eat ravioli under any circumstances. He just threw it on the floor. It did not matter what we did. We tried all kinds of ravioli. We even branched out into tortellini and other dubious stuffed noodles. This didn't change until April, when he finally tried some of this most suspect food. Now, fortunately, he likes it, although it turns out he still makes a mess because of the sauce, which he demands.

What a great blog you've started--esp. the photos. Eli has such expressive eyes--just look at that banner photo across the top! Can't wait to take Eli to that playground. And thanks for the justification for eating chocolate. Since we're stopping in Belgium on the way to Lyon, maybe we'll be able to find some of it there.

The playground is about ten minutes south along the Saône.
