Today's weather was fair--no rain during the day. After everyone got going, Eli got to show his grandparents around the Parc de la Tête d'Or. He returned to the zoo and saw his friends the elephants. He had a picnic lunch and enjoyed couscous. Perhaps best of all, he rode the petit train.
For dinner we had a leek quiche and salad with mango and beet, one of Ally's favorites. Ally loves beets. I think they're okay. Eli doesn't like particularly them, and they're kind of dangerous. The danger comes from the juice: not all the food you give Eli ends up in his mouth, and we worry about stains. So we don't give him much beet. We also ended up with three melons, since everyone went shopping without knowing what the others were getting. Melons are good, though.
Stéphanie dropped by and gave us some macarons from Bouillet. They were so good. We had caramel-salt, chocolate, coffee, chocolate-orange, and vanilla. French macarons are usually not the coconut balls we're used to, although those do exist here. Instead, macaron are small filled pastries made chiefly of egg white, almond flour, and sugar. (What our grocery-store coconut macaroons and proper macarons have in common is the egg white base: they're both evolved meringues.) Bouillet makes some higher-concept flavors like fennel-onion, guacamole-paprika, and peach-lychee. We might have to go get some.
My work continues to go well, and I think Ally is writing about hers.
